Changing Your Career Path: Part Three

The Right Timing

When it comes to making a major career change, timing is often a major topic of discussion. “Is now the right time?” and “When is it too late?” are the most common questions entrepreneurs ask before diving into a new project. This is, of course, completely understandable – business ventures often involve a certain amount of risk. Assessing where you are at in your life and career will play a determining role in both your decision-making and your willingness to make a significant change.

Weed Man has put together a few tips to guide you in making that long-awaited career change.

Don’t Settle

Are you happy in your current career? A significant part of each and every day is spent at work, so it is incredibly important that you feel fulfilled by what you do. If getting out of bed in the morning is a difficult and miserable task, then it may be time to make a change. Jot down a list of career ideas that excite you, and then use your list as a motivation tool.

Put Money Aside

Although this is perhaps easier said than done, it is crucial that you put money aside when it comes to the decision-making process (mentally, at the very least). If money wasn’t a factor, would you consider making a career change now? Aspiring entrepreneurs often lean on their financial concerns as a fool-proof explanation for not following through. However, if everything else in your life is right – family, health – then it may be time to take the plunge. Financing and small business loans can assist you the rest of the way.

Partner Up

A business partner can help you feel more prepared to make a drastic change. Sharing the costs and responsibilities of opening a business can be the difference maker between following your dreams now and waiting another five or ten years.

Consider Franchise Opportunities

If timing is your biggest concern, then you may want to consider franchising. With proven systems already in place, franchises eliminate many of the risks associated with business ownership. As a result, transitioning to a franchise is usually a much easier change than starting a business from scratch.

Don’t Let Age Get in the Way

Don’t let your age come between you and your desire to succeed as an entrepreneur. Remember: it’s never too late to start a business. Use your maturity to your advantage. With years of experience behind you, you’ll have access to a wider range of contacts than many of your competitors. Networking is an invaluable tool that can play a major role in getting your business up and running.

Don’t allow your anxieties about timing impede your potential success. Explore the possibilities of entrepreneurship and find out why starting your own business can be one of the most fulfilling ventures of all.
