In today’s day and age, social media is very important when it comes to running a business. It acts as a means of communication between you and your customers (and potential customers), is a great way to advertise and also proves to be a great way to gain authority in your industry. With technologies constantly advancing and social media blowing up in the past decade, social media marketing is easily a full-time job. Create an editorial calendar. Prior to getting started, do some brainstorming and map out ideas for content, what days and times you’d like to post and who your target audience will be. Staying organized and knowing what to post on what days is half the battle. Pre-planning will save you time in the future and ensure you are pushing out content that makes sense to the viewer.

Review your competition. If you’re finding it difficult to come up with innovative ideas for what to post in order to persuade consumers to engage with your content, a great resource is right in front of you. Check out your competitor’s social media pages and see what is working for them and what isn’t.

Use social media to increase traffic to your website. When you start to post on social outlets, be sure to include material from your website. It doesn’t need to be an everyday thing, but a goal of your social media efforts should definitely be to gain some traction on your business’s website. This will help your rankings when customers search for you on Google, as well as other search engines.

Monitor your social media. It’s important to manage your online reputation. If you have unhappy customers, they will make sure the world knows it, so ensure you are on top of all negative (and positive) comments directed to your company. It will show other customers and potential customers that you are serious about your business and you take your reputation seriously.

Create a business page on LinkedIn. It will help provide your company with authority in your industry, making you a credible source, while also reaching a large network of professionals, sales opportunities and of course, another platform for marketing. LinkedIn is great for recruiting and for developing your business.
