It all started with an Irish immigrant with an entrepreneurial spirit, determined to make a comfortable living in his new home of Canada. In 1970, the late Desmond Rice launched Weed Man Lawn Care with his wife, Brenda, to meet the rising demand for professional lawn care, weed control, and pest management services in his local community. Armed with a single pickup truck and a passion for creating healthy outdoor spaces, Des soon became known by neighborhood children as the “Weed Man.”
It wasn’t long before Des and Brenda managed to turn Weed Man into Canada’s premier lawn care company, and, in 1976, the two began extending the brand’s reach by franchising the concept nationwide. Twenty years later, Weed Man entered the U.S. market – thanks to an inspired idea by Weed Man USA’s former C.E.O., Roger Mongeon. Now sold out in Canada, Weed Man is rapidly growing across the United States and features over 800 unit territories servicing more than half a million customers.
Built on core values of amazing service, integrity, passion, and innovation, it’s no wonder Weed Man has become North America’s fastest-growing franchise lawn care business, earning recognition from some of the biggest names in the industry – including Forbes, Lawn & Landscape, Landscape Management, CNBC, Entrepreneur, and Franchise Business Review.
With over $350 million in system sales, Weed Man is now the leading franchised lawn care company in the green industry.
